September 19, 2010 (Sunday) - Maryville
Greenway Progressive Picnic Fun Walk - We will take a walk on the Maryville Greenway with periodic stops for food. Yes, we have found a way to get to eat before we finish walking. That is our Progressive Picnic. We will gather at the Blount County Library with a planned start at 3 p.m. We will have three stops: Picnic Appetizers, Picnic Finger Food, and Picnic Dessert.
Of course, there is a catch to this. We need a rough count on how many people are going to join us for this walk (hey, we don't want to run out of food), and we need some folks to step up to volunteer to prepare some of the food. So, if you are planning to participate, please drop me an e-mail to let me know that you'll be there. If you can do some of the food preparation, please indicate that in your e-mail as well. Once I have some feedback (and volunteers), I'll get back in touch and finalize the food plans.
For those who prepare the food, we will gather at the Library at 2:30 p.m. and then drive around and drop a car (with the food) at each of the eating stations. After the walk, we will take everyone back to their cars. Wouldn't want anyone to have to walk extra. |

- We will gather at the 3rd Creek Greenway trailhead in the parking lot of the Laurel Church of Christ, 3457 Kingston Pike, Knoxville. Gathering time is 6:15 to 6:30 p.m. with the
walkers setting off for a short fun walk promptly at 6:30 p.m. We will be taking the greenway (and a short street section) to the Panera Bread at 4855 Kingston Pike.
An easy 5.5 km walk (2.75 km each way). If you don't want to walk this one, but do want to partake in the fun, I would expect that we will arrive at Panera between 7 and 7:15 p.m. We will take around an hour at Panera to partake (if you are so inclined) in food and drink and socialize. This means that we should start the walk back to the cars around 8 p.m. which should put us back at the cars by 8:30 to 8:45 p.m. While this is
advertised as a "night walk," with daylight savings time in place, we should complete the walk before it really gets dark. However, a small pocket flashlight might be a good idea. |
